01/31/01 Bush to recognize ruthless Taliban as "faith-based organization" by Victor PayanPocho Christian Political Science Monitor In a surprise move which many are calling the actions of a first-class divider, President- neglect George W. Bush announced that he will recognize the Taliban, Afghanistan's brutal fundamentalist Moslem ruling party, as a "faith-based organization" eligible for US federal assistance. White House spokesman Aryan Felcher told reporters yesterday that Bush will present Taliban leader and former Yale fraternity brother Abdullah Oblongata with a substantial federal grant which includes Bibles, Apache helicopters, Stinger missiles, urban assault vehicles, cattle prods, thumbscrews as well as actor/gun enthusiast Charlton Heston. The Taliban, who were formerly funded by the US during their long war with the Soviet Union, are known for their ruthless enforcement of Islamic fundamentalist law. Since gaining power, they have waged a virtual war against all Afghani women, creating a nightmare society which strips them of their basic human rights and forces them to wear a veil at all times and to bow to the iron will of a cruel and patriarchal religious state. Critics say that despite these obvious black marks, Bush endorsed the aid package because the Taliban share his views about social security, morality, abortion, charter schools and the estate tax. Bush was quick to fend off detractors with his trademark line about being uniters and not dividers. When pressed by hecklers in the press corps for a new catch phrase, Bush rebuked his critics by declaring, "We must be adders and not subtractors." When asked if he was likening himself to the adder, a universally despised deadly desert snake, Bush quivered nervously and uttered the phrase, "Homina homina homina." The adder was unavailable for comment. ©2001 Victor Payan | |
